The June selection is The Last Blue by Isla Morley. In 1937, two government-sponsored documentarians—a writer and photographer—are dispatched to penetrate the recesses of Appalachia and record what they find for President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration. What they see will haunt them into old age: Jubilee Buford, a woman whose skin is a shocking and unmistakable shade of blue.
