An exciting program for children ages 1½ to 3!
1st Step is a fun, interactive program for children 1½ to 3 years old and their caregivers. Toddlers will be exposed to a wide variety of research-based activities that focus on Every Child Ready to Read’s 5 early literacy practices: Read, Sing, Play, Talk and Write. Instructors will also share books, songs, and activities to use at home.
Many toddlers are not quite ready for the structure of a more formal story time setting. 1st Step gives them the opportunity to explore their surroundings in an environment that encourages them to move and discover and very rarely sit still. At the same time 1st Step helps toddlers begin to learn how to follow directions, to listen, to respond appropriately in a group, and to become more aware of themselves and others.
After class, participants are encouraged to stay and play in the library’s youth room. Special activities for this age group will be provided. Caregivers should wear loose comfortable clothing and are strongly encouraged to be silly, sit on the floor, sing loudly and have fun!
The program meets once a week for 6 weeks. Class size is limited to 15 toddlers.
